Hard to tell from the photos if there is enough space very possible not but could you put some kind of high built in open shelving between the front door and dining area try and mirror this on the alcove wall to create a cosier dining area.
My front entry is part of my dining room so i need the two spaces to complement each other.

You could then get rid of the half wall so that guests are guided to their right when they enter.
